
Karen Stanek, MD
Dr. Karen Stanek was born and raised in Idaho. Dr. Stanek received her M.S. and Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, in exercise physiology. She then did a post-doctoral fellowship with Arthur Guyton and Tom Coleman at the University of Mississippi. In 1988 she graduated from medical school at the University of Mississippi. After completing
residency at the University of Colorado in Denver, Dr. Stanek specialized in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with a sub-specialty in brain injury. After completing Locum Tenums for a year, she accepted the position of Medical Director of Deaconess Rehabilitation Unit and was instrumental in developing St. Lukes' Rehabilitation Institute over the next two years. Dr. Stanek worked at St. Luke's as Medical Director of the Traumatic brain injury unit until 2015.At this point, she formed her own medical Clinic-called Northwest Medical Rehabilitation in 1996 until retirement in 2023. Dr. Stanek continues to work as the Medical Director of the Spokane Hyperbaric Center and is part of the New Life Networks, a stem cell business. In her spare time, Dr. Stanek enjoys the outdoors and the four seasons that Spokane has to offer.
